He is accused of violating section 9 but as I point out since SNC didn't benefit the whole thing will likely just be a tempest in a teapot.

Not an accusation.  That was the finding of the ethics commissioner.

It requires a court to conclude if a law was broken.

This wasn't a criminal investigation, it was an ethics investigation.  There's lots of things that are legal but not ethical, like when politicians accept luxurious gifts from wealthy friends.

Well if it went to the courts JT and Butts are just going to pressure the judicial officials again until they get off scot-free, or if that doesn't work it will be a big scandal again and then we're back where we started.  :P

c'mon man... you shouldn't post when you're drunk!

I wasn't drunk, i was high on the sweet mary jane, which is legal now thanks to this bro i went to college with.  I know a couple of dudes who i'm sure were hot-boxing it all night tonight. Great way to escape your problems for a few hours!

you do know the CPC is still Harper's party, right? That Harper is still pulling the strings, right?

Is this like the Obama deep state?

wait now - 1st talking point just arrived: hey PG, back in the day, weakSauce Andy repeatedly made a fool of himself calling for PM Trudeau's resignation... but not now! Wassup?  ;D

I'm not a fan of weaksauce, but i do admire the exceptional softness of his skin resulting from all the mud you've thrown on him. That grin of his ain't for nothing!  ;D

It's actually somewhat surprising that the defence here hasn't been more forceful.

The only PM in history to have violated Conflict of Interest rules TWICE!!!! Sunny Ways indeed.

The only justification is that he was trying to save jobs. So that's justification to break the law now. . .

To be fair, those rules have only been around since 2006.

You won't likely see this going to court but you can bet you will hear about it a time or two leading up to the election.

And the DPA was pushed through in an omnibus bill just to get SNC off the hook.

The Conflict of Interest Act is law and even though it isn't part of the Criminal Code, the law was clearly broken.

It was an ethics investigation but the ethics commissioner concluded that the law was broken.  A civil servant in a high position of authority would (or at least should, barring no corruption) be fired for such an offense.  When he became an MP or was re-elected, JT like every MP and civil servant would have signed a contract specifically requiring that he must read the rules pertaining to the Conflict of Interest Act and sign off on it that he understands it, along with other agreements pertaining to codes of conduct and security.  He probably didn't read any of it & just signed it, given what he did with the Aga Khan and now this.

He should not have the choice to resign or not.  This is the law, and a very serious breach (as per the ethics commissioner) that fundamentally undermines our democracy.  He should be terminated as an MP by order of Parliament as any public servant should be as he is not fit to serve in our government, along with the others seriously involved in this, like Butts.
