Can he be charged?  Is the RCMP investigating?

I doubt it. A relationship between ethics and the law is coincidental.

Was there really any doubt?

When pressed on his involvement earlier in the year JT would always pawn it off on the Ethics Commissioner.

Well now what JT?

He broke the law.  It's an ethics law.

I'm sure he'll key on the portion of the story where JT's lawyer pressured her for the good of the country and she was a shitty Justice Minister anyway.  ;D

I can certainly imagine Scheer screaming that at the pitch of his lungs, maybe Faith Goldy will join him, but since SNC never got a DPA, it's doubtful JT will ever face a courtroom over the issue.

This is totally an optics faux paux. You know like when a certain PM's Chief of Staff pays off an embattled Senator's debts.

Yes.  He violated the Conflict of Interest Act.  An Act is a bill that passes both houses after debate in Parliament and receives royal assent and becomes law.   I guess the only thing JWR was wrong about was that Trudeau broke no laws.

He is accused of violating section 9 but as I point out since SNC didn't benefit the whole thing will likely just be a tempest in a teapot.

What's bewildering is that JWR straight up warned them that he/they were acting improperly and how it would be perceived if she did as they wanted, she was trying to protect him and she said as much, she was giving the guy legal counsel during her recorded call to Michael Wernick, but they still went ahead.

Were they all that uninformed about how the AG and Minister of Justice works? The people around Trudeau in the PMO have just been terrible at protecting the guy.  The convicted attempted politician assassin invited in India, meeting and taking pictures with that Joshua Boyle family nutjobs etc.

Gerald Butts was principal advisor to Dalton McGuinty, one of the most corrupt & ineffectual Liberal politicians ever. You have to wonder the wisdom of a PM relying on an advisor who's been in the middle of a such a corrupt government office before and all the habits and ways of operating that comes with.  This is just the way the "old Liberals" do things.  Trudeau is part of that legacy, who knows what JT learned from his dad growing up. The Liberals need a clean slate, voters thought they were getting that when they annihilated the Liberal party post-Chretien, I guess not.

JWR proves there's some ethical Liberals among this new batch, so build a party around them.  MP's should force JT to resign, make JWR their leader, that's the Liberal's best chance at re-election IMO. Seems too late for that since much of the party turned their backs on her.  Same old Liberals.
