It's a philosophical (ideological) difference.  They put a high value on civil liberty over government things like lockdowns or universal daycare.
I'd like to think people are mulling the philosophy but I doubt it

that's you speaking for the ~10% of unvaccinated truckers? Waddabout the other ~90% that are in your stated/presumed ideological alignment? And as MH so pointedly suggests, ideology positioning doesn't fit the mould of a typically uneducated/under-educated trucker!

I'm glad I live in a country where at least a small minority (let's use the 10% number) disagree with the curtailing of our constitutional rights instead of all 100% of us just going along with it.  And you should be too.

and even if one were to presumptuously accept the/your suggestion 'constitutional rights' were/are being infringed, what's wrong with following the typical procedural approach to seek remedy per Section 24(1) - Remedies of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

...to actually listen to what they have to say...

of course there's no shortage of organizers claiming position/protesting authority to make demands! Like these from the, 'Freedom Convoy 2022' organizers; specifically:

Quote
=> The federal and provincial governments terminate the vaccine passports and all other obligatory vaccine contact tracing programs, or Inter-Canada passport systems.
=> Terminate Covid vaccine mandates and respect the rights of those who wish to remain unvaccinated.
=> Cease the divisive rhetoric attacking Canadians who disagree with government mandates.
=> Cease to limit debate through coercive measures with the goal of censoring those who have varying or incorrect opinions.

the waldo can't be any more precisely pointed than to state the rallying charge, "Mah Freedum!" (h/t member segnosaur)

Consenting to violence by having medicine injected into their bodies?

My body, my choice...except vaccines.  Your choice is violence or unemployment.  What a bunch of hypocrites.

What kind of wuss thinks getting a little needle with a safe and effective vaccine is "violence" GTFO you baby.

Even if I don't quite agree with their positions I'm glad I live in a country where at least a small minority (let's use the 10% number) disagree with the curtailing of our constitutional rights instead of all 100% of us just going along with it.  And you should be too.  Somebody has to be there to question these things or disagree with them and push back.  These are those people.  Instead of just laughing at them and mocking them just let them do their thing, as long as it isn't violent or involve illegal activity I really don't care what any peaceful protestor does.

No one is annoyed about the fact of the protest, people are annoyed that it's in service of a really stupid cause (that is of course if you accept the premise that it's about vaccine mandates and not that its just a fundraising/publicity vehicle for the far right).

Our smug PM aka your hero has already written these protestors off as some fringe morons not worthy of his time. If he wasn't so smug maybe he'd actually take 10 minutes to actually listen to what they have to say because they are Canadians and he's their PM, even if still ends up disagreeing with them and implementing absolutely nothing that they want, which is what's going to happen.  But if it were busloads of BLM activists he'd be out getting photo ops to post on Twitter to show us all how nice he is (which is BS).

Yeah let's listen to what they have to say:

Quote
Its two GoFundMe organizers are previously known figures in Canada’s far-right ecosystem and have publicly made Islamophobic comments. Its loudest promoter, Pat King, is a racist who has tried to incite his audience to violence more times than you can count.

...
Attending and boosting Yellow Vest events starting in 2018, Lich social media posts from the time show her, in one moment, calling out some hateful rhetoric within the movement, while also posting Islamophobic articles of her own, like conspiracies about the “Muslim Brotherhood” operating in Canada. She shared posts from The Clarion Project – “an organization that advances anti-Muslim content through its web-based and video production platforms” – as well as the deeply conspiratorial and, once again, anti-Islamic podcast The Quiggin Report, hosted by dubious security “expert” Tom Quiggin.
...
Dichter’s website shares The Quiggin Report, and Dichter himself shares similar Islamophobic sentiments in public. In 2019 he claimed that “Islamist entryism” is “rotting away at our society like syphilis.”
...
In the past King has gone on record about his feelings about the “Anglo-Saxon replacement,” that plans to “flood [Canada] with refugees,” and subvert the education system -- a thin rebranding of the great replacement theory touted by ethnonationalists.

At other points, King has expressed overtly racist and antisemitic statements. In a 2019 stream about the then-upcoming federal election King complained that he had to leave the movement due to their lack of success: “[The election] won’t matter…unless you want to change your national language to Chinese or Mandarin or Hebrew,” and going on to compare Chinese names to the sound of change falling down stairs.

He’s publicly distorted established facts about the Holocaust – a form of Holocaust denial – saying, “I do know that the Holocaust [sic] was reduced to 1.5 million and not the 6 million that it was said to be.” He then invoked the antisemitic conspiracy theory that the Jewish people are secretly in control of world governance, media, and finances: “The questions have been asked several times to the ADL and the Jewish government and communities. We have Jewish world [bankers] who are dictating our government policies and controlling our Politicians.”

Elon just wants US truckers to get an exemption so he can get his Teslas across the border easier. That's probably as much as he knows about Canadian politics.

how many 'trucker convoy protesters' know of the recent vaccination requirements to gain entry to the U.S. via land ports of entry? Brainiacs, indeed!

I agree, they should go to the courts if they really have an issue.  The problem is we're in an unusual pandemic situation and provinces have declared a state of emergency which means they get to use extraordinary powers.

The PROVINCES you say?

Whoa, so they didn't have to drive across the country with f**k Trudeau flags 🤔

My local Facebook group had some pro Convoy posts...

But then an anti convoy post, showing a line of turkeys showed up... and the silent majority LIKED that one quite a bit.

Ad hominem insults are a logical fallacy and not an argument so they'll be ignored.   https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/ad-hominem

The law does care.  Piercing the skin with a needle and injecting medicine into you body is violence.  Coercing anyone to go under a medical procedure they don't want is unethical.  The safety and size of the needle is totally irrelevant, the issue is consent.
You have always been opposed to how Canada got rid of polio and measles? Or you were just completely unaware?

Did it require mandatory vaccines?

Do you believe the state should mandate that people undergo medical procedures on their bodies?

I'm a big believer in vaccines but also a believer in informed consent.

No one is being forced to get the vaccine.

Children needed vaccines to be allowed to attend school, among other mandates in the past.

How are you not being forced to vaccinate your kid if they're being denied a basic public service like education?  That is coercion.
I queef, therefore I am.

He's Canadian.  He went to Queens.
He is South African and lived in Canada for less than three years. He transferred from Queens to the University of Pennsylvania where he got his degree. He got his citizenship through his Canadian mother.
