Trucker Rally
« on: January 27, 2022, 10:55:55 am »
The trucking indusstry is against this….  The trucking union is against this…. So who supports this protest?  This “January

Financed by Alberta Separatists…
Quote
It was Menzies who connected the dots between the fundraiser and the political interests of organizer Tamara Lich, who has what he described as “a history of association with radical groups, including the recently formed federal separatist Maverick Party in Alberta.”

“In her past, Lich was regional co-ordinator for Wexit in southeastern Alberta, and was member of the board for Wexit Alberta,” TruckNews.com reported. It said she later joined the board of Wexit Canada, which has been rebranded the Maverick Party.

He reported that Lich, whom he said has no direct connection to the trucking industry, also had past links to the so-called Yellow Vest movement, which has many documented connections to extremist groups.

Supported by Conservative Party MPs, who seem to be encouraging these duh-heads to disrupt Ottawa until they get their way.  And a Conservative “leader” who dodges questions about it.

These sorts of blatant lies and deliberate attempts to mislead Canadians are a threat to our democracy. But what makes the CPC’s recent conduct even more dangerous is the obvious desire on the part of its key members, including former leader Scheer and potential leadership front-runner Pierre Poilievre, to provoke a portion of the Canadian public that’s already inclined towards anti-social behaviour — and direct their fury towards the prime minister.

Quote
After all, the convoy of truckers headed to Ottawa right now sounds an awful lot like the one that made that same trip back in February 2019 to protest the Trudeau government’s treatment of the oil and gas sector.
As Canada’s National Observer reported at the time, that convoy was marbled with white nationalists, climate change deniers and anti-immigration activists, and its hostility towards the prime minister transcended normal political boundaries. And as Caroline Orr made clear in a recent piece, the threat of political violence coming from the far right in Canada has only gotten bigger. “The anti-vaccine movement has become a vector for radicalization,” she wrote, “and national security experts are concerned about what comes next.”

This group is full of MAGA-types who want this to be their “January 6” moment….  Of course, that seditionist uprising failed …. But hey…. Maybe truckers can bring about the change needed in this country that democracy cannot, am I right???

The protest blocked critical infrastructure in Alberta on the way through, but unlike indigenous groups and environmental activists, Kenney likes these guys so did nothing about it, despite passing the “Critical Infrastructure Act”.  So, clearly, the act is only to be used politically, which will likely invalidate it in the courts when it is used that way (but I digress).

These are questions the Conservative Party of Canada’s leadership should be made to answer. They’re all the more pertinent now that people like Donald Trump Jr. and Fox News’ Laura Ingraham are drawing attention to the convoy and fanning the same flames that nearly set their own Capitol alight just over a year ago. But the answer coming from Canada’s Conservatives, if we ever get one, will probably be that their ends justify these means. If it helps them win an election, or at the very least fend off the surge on their far-right flank from the People’s Party of Canada, the Conservative Party of Canada seems content to keep pushing us down this dark road. The rest of the country has no choice but to wait and see where it takes us.
As CTV’s Glen McGregor reported, some people involved with the trucker convoy are openly rooting for that sort of attack on Parliament to happen. And as journalist Justin Ling noted on Twitter, Canada Unity, the organizing body for the convoy, “is essentially calling for the removal of the Canadian government.”

The Conservative Party is moving Canada down a path that the vast majority of Canadians will not go…. And I suspect they will pay a political price for this.  But maybe they’ve seen that democracy isn’t getting them anywhere….  So let’s try sedition.

Former NHLer and full-time crazy person Theo Fleury went on FOX news to claim the convoy was 50,000 trucks and 1.4 million people.

OPP reports it's 113 commercial vehicles (trucks) and 276 personal vehicles (pickups, SUVs, cars). You'd have to think that real OTR truckers would be too busy working to take a bunch of time off for this bull.

Yes.  These are mostly losers with spare time on their hands. Losers with fringe right-wing ideals, mind you….

Any trucker that crosses the border to USA must be vaccinated already (American rules, not our’s).  They’re too busy working to get involved with this stupidity.

The Conservatives seem trying to stop bleeding to the Peoples Party but that will just alienate many in the centre. They will never form a government with this strategy and an unaccountable Liberal party is not good for the country. An unaccountable any party is not good for the country.

The federal government has no constitutional authority to mandate vaccinations.

Federal governments have 100% authority over borders and who crosses them.

The truckers have a manifesto, of sorts.

…the “People of Canada” join with the Senate and the Governor General to usurp the powers of the government and ditch vaccine mandates. Apparently the deep thinkers behind the convoy think the answer to their complaints is a coup of sorts with Gov. Gen. Mary Simon leading the charge.

Likewise, ponder the hallucinatory art work featuring truckers parting the seas, Moses-style, with a burning cross, no less, in the background.

The truckers are calling for sedition, and using imagery with burning crosses to get their point across.  And this is supported by MPs in the Conservative Party.

The extremist fringe having a rally and, potentially, promoting violent overthrow of the government, is only going to produce a backlash for any political party that supports it.  If you want to keep the Libs in power, the best way is to support the radical fringe right.

They sound more like MAGA terrorist secessionists than they do a protest.

A win for protesters: Ottawa Public Health closed down vaccine clinics.

Hijacked: The protest convoy has been hijacked by the far right or extreme rhetoric, Mike Millian, president of the Private Motor Truck Council of Canada, told CBC: “We’re seeing signs calling our government communists and Nazis and comparing [the mandate] to the Holocaust. And if you’re comparing this to the Holocaust, you need to educate yourself.”

Protesters have spat on and threatened journalists covering the movement.

I support vaccines, and the right to peaceful protest, and am not particularly supportive of the government forcing people out of their jobs if they choose not to get vaxxed, especially essential workers like truckers who don't work on the front line and mostly sit by themselves in a confined space like their trucks all day.

I will also mention that Trudeau forced all fed government public servants to get vaccinated even if they work from home full time or else they go on indefinite admin leave with no pay.

But also apparently the vast majority of truckers are vaxxed.  They will pick up more trucks in the GTA and in Ontario generally and from Quebec and east coast.  Will be interesting to see final numbers. They also raised over 6 million bucks to help pay for gas on Go Fund Me from 20k donors which was surprising.

I have no idea how many alt-right weirdos are among these truckers but I'm not going to write them all off as such yet.

I mean, it's organized by alt right weirdos, doesn't that tell you something?

That would actually mean Graham has to take a few minutes to look into it.

Better to claim ignorance and pretend like they might be good people.  It suits his narrative.

90% of truckers are vaccinated and out doing their jobs right now while these idiots have plenty of time to do their secessionist “protest”….

He and others do the same thing with MAGA people, trying to make it seem like there's a large silent majority of them who aren't complete lunatics, which may or may not be true but is also irrelevant when the lunatics are the ones behind the wheel.

I have no narrative here.  Like most groups like antifa, BLM, Trump voters etc I  assume there's a variety of people and agendas involved.  I assume there will be anti-science nutters involved as well as people who just don't agree with vaccine mandates.  What the breakdown is I have no idea.  Elon Musk is smarter than all of us, has been vaccinated, and supports the convoy, so this isn't so black and white as you're trying to paint it.

Why would I put any weight whatsoever behind what Elon Musk says about it?  Do you think he made an actual informed opinion about, and if so, how do you know this from a one-lined tweet?

What you’re doing is called an ‘argument from authority’ and assuming, because he carries some sort of gravitas for you that he must be correct on the issue.

What he tweeted was a political opinion.  He has no special authority whatsoever for anyone to take his opinion seriously on the matter.  He just as likely got his info from Theo Fleury on Fox News when he told them there are 50,000 trucks.
