historically, regardless of governing party, it is what it is! Why such consternation for what is essentially a symbolic position? Please don't trot out a call for the GG to be elected - your nonsense with Alberta Senate "elections" is enough... already!
So much for openness and change.

again, it is what it is! Which has nothing to do with targeting any one particular governing party. You're just complaining for the sake of!

A GG that doesn’t speak French.  Bad appointment.

No it isn't, the GG has constitutional powers, that's why the PM has to defer to the GG on appointments and dissolving parliament. It might cause a constitutional crisis if the GG refused to go with a PM's request but they have the powers.

You don't see me do this often, but I give credit where credit is due so....

Excellent job appointing Mary Simon as our new governor general, JT.  You did good.
It's about time. I think it's probably the easiest decision he's been given to make.  The back and forth over the importance of the GG and reach of power makes me wonder why...or wish...the PM's shouldn't be on par with the figurehead model assigned the GG. It certainly could be in a proportionally representative parliament.

Agreed, but while we're stuck with this relic of the past, he chose amazingly well at least.

I have to make a confession.  It was such a good choice, in fact, that I started trying to find out if the LPC was somehow involved in prompting the search for the graves in Kamloops.

I know, Waldo is gonna lose his marbles about the thought, but it's true.. the thought crossed my mind.  Especially with Trudeau saying "we know there are more".

Then the perfect moment falls for filling in the GG position a few months before an election and even people like me are clapping.

I'm a cynic to the core when it comes to politics.

Will be interesting to see the GG make the speech from the throne when she can't speak french.  I guess she'll practice it phonetically.

Do you guys think the next GG will be a man from Alberta?  HA!

Apparently it was in the Truth and Reconciliation Report but was either not read or ignored.

The Kamloops search was funded by a provincial grant.

your statement... is vague and lacks specifics/details. In any case, in 2019, the Liberal government allocated ~$34 million toward projects intended to research the children who died at residential schools; a key example being an extension outcome of the TRC - the 'Missing Children Project', with funding towards such things as an online registry of the dead, documenting known cemeteries, etc.. Given the Kamloops discovery, the remaining ($27 million) funds from that initial allocation have since been targeted on an urgent basis to, "support Indigenous led, community based, survivor centric and culturally sensitive investigations of burial sites"... with the federal government, "actively reaching out to Indigenous communities to work with them on how they can access the $27 million of funding being delivered to support them."

The Kamloops search was funded by a provincial grant.

the majority funding was provincial; however, there was also federal monies involved.

GG's usually serve around 5 years.  It will take her years of study.
