I think it's a good costume for him.

Quote from: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Today, we celebrate our country and everyone who calls it home. But while we acknowledge our successes, we must also recognize that, for some, Canada Day is not yet a day of celebration.

The horrific findings of the remains of hundreds of children at the sites of former residential schools in British Columbia and Saskatchewan have rightfully pressed us to reflect on our country’s historical failures, and the injustices that still exist for Indigenous peoples and many others in Canada.

We as Canadians must be honest with ourselves about our past.

You don't see me do this often, but I give credit where credit is due so....

Excellent job appointing Mary Simon as our new governor general, JT.  You did good.

Probably, who cares if we need one or not.

Seems like a better selection than Payette at least. Of course we will never know if she was on the list of five or who the others were.

historically, regardless of governing party, it is what it is! Why such consternation for what is essentially a symbolic position? Please don't trot out a call for the GG to be elected - your nonsense with Alberta Senate "elections" is enough... already!

She has a very impressive resume, at least she knows a lot about politics and policy management etc, can't say that for the astronaut lady.  Doesn't know french which is a problem.

Seemed like a good pick until I found out she was a part of the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation LOL!  https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/member/mary-simon

To her defense, everyone seems to have their hands in the Trudeau cookie jar!

Saw this comment on CBC News:

"End liberal privilege!
Liberal privilege is: believing you have the right to control other people's lives. Believing you have the right to never hear other opinions. Believing that when you're offended others have to care. Believing that there are two sets of rules: one for you and one for everyone else."

Nothing says smug and self-righteous like a Liberal !

c'mon member squiggy! I'm countin' on you to drop a dumbTag on this Gorgeous post... don't let me down now!

Gorgeous, she is not a Member of the Pierre Eliot Trudeau Foundation; rather, see Mentor! The foundation itself is an independent non-partisan charity... with, of course, annual reports & annual financial statement audits. I'll let you redeem yourself by commenting on the ratings the charity holds and has received since its 2001 inception - sure you can!

So much for openness and change. I’ve never called for a GG to be elected, I think the strength of the position is  being non political but unlike the Senate, its purpose is constitutional and not involved with the functioning of government or drafting legislation.
