Exactly.  Anyone that says these carbon taxes have been around for years is completely misinformed.  There were two new increases in the existing carbon taxes that Trudeau implemented in the last year or two.  Apparently he found it necessary to raise taxes in the middle of a pandemic.  The guy has **** for brains.

The BC carbon tax has been around since 2008. Initially it was supposed to be revenue neutral and be offset by reductions in other taxes. When the existing NDP government came to power one of the first things they did was rescind the the revenue neutral legislation and put it in general revenue. The same will happen to the federal tax, there is just too much money involved for governments to keep their hands off.

Same as the GST was supposed to be put against paying off the debt.
