The alternative, I think, of letting businesses fail en mass, with mass layoffs, was far worse.
Like taking a laissez faire approach to COVID and just letting nature take its course. I'm surprised Extinction Rebellion doesn't have a conservative wing advising that. It's been pointed out before that most of the planet's other inhabitants would raise a collective cheer if human beings disappeared from the scene.
