Quebec gives EV rebates up to $8000 and receives 13 billion in equalization, much of it from Alberta. Add the federal rebate of $5000 and you have $13,000 in subsidies to EV buyers. That money doesn't come from renewable energy revenues.

The biggest contributors to Quebec equalization are, in order:

Ontario
Quebec
Alberta

Quebec receives 13 billion in equalization. Per capita it receives about $2000 more from Ottawa than it contributes in revenues. Only four provinces contribute more than they receive, Ontario, Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan. Per capita, Albertans contribute the most by far, about $5000.

The $13 billion figure is not per capita, and provinces contributing more than they receive is ambiguous.

Correct - individual taxpayers make the contributions.  Equalization transfers come from all of us.

13 billion divided by the Quebec population of 8.485 million equals $1,532.00 per person.

Again, Fig.2

Federal revenues from Quebec, just over $6000 per person. Federal expenditures in Quebec, about $8000 per person.

Our own parliament doesn't find it ambiguous at all.

The sources of equalization aren't equal, that is why there is equalization in the first place.

Teck Corp. has said they need $75 bbl to make the Frontier Project viable. It's currently sitting around $50 bbl with no signs of increasing appreciably. Even I can figure out the math on that project.

That’s why these projects need access to tidewater.

Access to tidewater is the only way to bring it up to ~$50. Otherwise it's around $35 these days. If I were Teck, I'd stuff my 20 billion back in my pocket too.

Access to tidewater will increase the world price of oil?

There are 2 reasons for lower price of tar sands sludge:

1. Limited access to markets
2. Cost to refine into useful product

I always hear #1 quoted, but never #2.
