I make no apologies for being opposed to fossil fuel production. In fact, I am very opposed to any continuing federal subsidies for the fossil fuel industries, because those subsidies are the only thing  propping up profitability. Without the subsidies, investments would  have already tipped to rollout of   renewable energy.

Quebec gives EV rebates up to $8000 and receives 13 billion in equalization, much of it from Alberta. Add the federal rebate of $5000 and you have $13,000 in subsidies to EV buyers. That money doesn't come from renewable energy revenues.

And what makes you think that revenue can't come equally from renewables once the transition is complete?

Well it isn't and what makes you think it can?

Simply because it certainly wasn't prior to that recent event called the industrial revolution, and so it easily could be replaced by the "renewable revolution". Guess what, you'll still get a power bill whether it comes from a coal plant or a wind farm or a hydro dam.

Canada doesn't have a comparative advantage in producing renewable energy.  In fact, we're at a disadvantage when it comes to solar because our country is located so north.  Solar panels in ie: California are more efficient.

We aren't going to be exporting tons of renewable energy all over the world like we do oil, it doesn't work like that.  We're not going to be storing tons of solar or wind energy in batteries and shipping them overseas for big profits.  Canada has a big comparative advantage in oil and gas because these are much-needed resources and we have vast amounts of it, far more than almost any other country.

How much are you going to make exporting renewable energy?

You're filled with wishful thinking and zero facts.

which became so obvious when member Granny hitched a ride with the Green Party's failed Mission Improbable! But of course, she's got some game in how to throw out unsubstantiated claims concerning renewable energy!

Um, BC hydro sends me a bill which I pay to keep my lights on. Do we need Mr. Peaboddy's Coal Train as the only source of revenue?

geezaz! For as much as you have touted the Green Party's plans, are you now claiming the Green Party policy doesn't include net-zero by 2050? Wait, let me call my crew in to do the math: 2020 from 2050 is... how much guys - how much? What's that you say; what's that? 30 years you say?

member Granny, you're such a lightweight, the waldo can't given you any more attention/time right now!  ;D

I don't limit my thinking to any party platforms.

There is no 30 year window.
I don't limit my thinking to any party platforms.

why don't you accept net-zero emissions by 2050?

let the waldo start with a basic reference to Net Zero, as in reaching CLIMATE NEUTRALITY => in that transition to a low-carbon economy, there will still be GHG emissions; however, towards Net Zero, these emissions will need to be balanced out by removal of GHGs from the atmosphere... like through, for example, forest restoration, DACS technologies (Direct Air Capture & Storage), etc..

conventional mitigation measures + carbon removal technologies => Net Zero

Just 10% of fossil fuel subsidy cash ‘could pay for green transition’
Redirecting small portion of subsidies would unleash clean energy revolution, says report

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/aug/01/fossil-fuel-subsidy-cash-pay-green-energy-transition

Switching just some of the huge subsidies supporting fossil fuels to renewables would unleash a runaway clean energy revolution, according to a new report, significantly cutting the carbon emissions that are driving the climate crisis.

Coal, oil and gas get more than $370bn (£305bn) a year in support, compared with $100bn for renewables, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) report found. Just 10-30% of the fossil fuel subsidies would pay for a global transition to clean energy, the IISD said.

Ending fossil fuel subsidies has long been seen as vital
to tackling the climate emergency, with the G20 nations pledging in 2009 to phase them out, but progress has been limited.

What Are We Waiting For? 1.5 degrees and ending government subsidies to fossil fuels

The message is clear. The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) about the current ambition under the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) says the world isn’t doing enough and isn’t doing it fast enough

Canadian oil and gas get about 4.5 billion in tax breaks, it doesn’t get direct subsidies. Mineral fuels are the country’s largest export making up 22% of total exports in 2019, worth nearly 100 billion.

How much are you going to make exporting renewable energy?

Well first we are going to become domestically  independently sustainable in energy - produce ALL of our own electricity to replace ALL fossil fuel imports.

And we'll continue exporting electricity too, primarily via transmission to the US as at present, but other methods may become available too.

Never say "can't". Some inventive and entrepreneurial spirits will always prove you wrong ... IF we free the energy market from the constraints of our massive public subsidies for fossil fuels, and provide a level playing field for those inventive and entrepreneurial spirits in renewable energy.

It's not rocket science. It's just the free market operating as it should.

You speak of the free market as if it owes you something. You are talking about being able to replace over 20% of this country’s exports like it is some kind of given. There are a lot of poor countries in this world and it isn’t because their people are deadbeats.
