1 - imagine all the money churches can now make by hosting gay wedding receptions.

2 - Places like Trinity Western are literally run by religious groups.  So are some hospitals.  The Catholic hospital in Nova Scotia was told by the courts that they must provide assisted dying.

1. The most significant priest in my upbringing said funeral mass for a friend who died, and had lived with a man his final years.  The priest openly acknowledged their relationship and asked for more love in the world.  I believe change is coming.

2. I get it but it's a lot more problematic to have a religious hospital than elementary school.  I would rather they not have religious hospitals.

1 - religions are being forced to change through secular humanism.

2 - as long as religions have schools, they will be forced to teach things like evolution and that people have equality under the law.  And hospitals will be forced to provide services they don’t want to.

The only difference is you don’t seem to mind child indoctrination as much as the health stuff.

Catholic public school has 8th graders make posters for anti-abortion group.

Quote
The assignment at St. Patrick Catholic Elementary School in Woodstock involves students creating a poster that includes the words "Unborn Babies Matter," along with a picture or pictures that incorporate the theme. The in-class assignment is being graded and entered in a contest run by a local anti-abortion group.

"The parents weren't told about it, and they're not allowing the kids to learn about the opposite side of this issue," said Rachelle Lynn Dixon, whose daughter Kaydence, 13, alerted her mom to the assignment. "It's a Catholic school, but it's also funded by the public. It's an elementary school that is asking kids to Google images about abortion.

According to the article, the assignment cannot be taken home…. Hmmm….  I wonder why that is.

Not sure I have seen anything in the last many years so blatantly obvious as a reason to eliminate public funding for religious schools.  They are doing exactly what the right-wing kooks claim that public schools are doing;  indoctrinating children.

Having a seizure?  Well…. Clearly the boy has demons!  Time for an exorcism!

The head of a Saskatchewan Bible camp admitted an exorcism was performed on a boy displaying symptoms of a seizure, and that no one provided medical care during or after the ceremony.

Wow. I didn't realize that sort of thing happened in Canada (religious extremists getting their way like that). I had always thought of Canada as very secular.

We have our share of wingnuts, especially on the prairies.

If a bunch of abusive husbands got together and created a religion they'd call it Islam.

And then if you call them out on it the progs don't know what to do because Muslims are an oppressed victim group in the west but so are women so then the feminists all die from brain hemorrhages due to cognitive dissonance.

Laws and governments generally are secular.  But, as stated, there are plenty of religious wingnuts all over the country.

Hopefully, these people are brought up on charges, the camp and church are shut down and never receive any government funding ever again, but I doubt it will happen.

Religion, and in particular Christianity, still hold a privileged place in society.

Religion. Poisons. Everything.

These parents aren’t really helping either….   Trying to “change the church” rather than teaching their teenage daughter to get the F out of that toxic environment.

Attending a church like that without knowing their views is a great way to open your child up to abuse as well.

Or Christianity.  Do you know how many Christian sects support patriarchy, submission to husband and Church and advise abused women not to leave their husband or go to cops?   You may think Islam is special, but you'd be wrong.

BTW, in Africa, Christian churches support polygamy.

Islam is special.  By far the most sexist, racist, cult currently in existence.  You know it’s a cult because if you try to leave, they kill you! 😂

There’s something like 1.2 BILLION Muslims on the planet, so that’s a pretty big net you’re casting you racist f**k.

Interesting. So are churches taxed in Canada?
