People are giving Smith exactly what she wants.

Trudeau's reaction, which has been more or less "lol, whatever", is exactly the correct response.

Smith wants to fight the upcoming election on "Ottawa is trying to keep us down!"   Don't fall for it. Make her fight the election on "I'm not a nutbar conspiracy theorist!" because that's what is going to sink her.

Nah, there's no strategy there. That would require some level of cunning and political acumen that has heretofore gone unseen.

Paper straws were what we used before plastic straws.

I miss plastic bags.  They were not single use for me, I reused all my bags for things like lining small garbage cans.  Now I have to buy bags.

They could just use biodegradable plastic bags.

"Biodegradable" plastics just turn into microplastics quicker.

I use compostable brown paper bags for my kitchen compost. They stay liquid proof for at least a week. Why not larger versions of those that can also be used as liners? I'd buy them.

Not all bioplastics are the same.  Some are even made from fossil fuels, some are made from corn and other plants.  And this article abstract says as much.  The article is also behind a paywall.

Alberta Premier Smith insists she shouldn't be held to account for her prior held views... shouldn't be held to account for anything she has stated as a journalist/radio show host! LOL!

like, say when she talked up annexing parts of B.C. to bring Alberta that ever elusive tide-water rights/access

Quote from: Press Progress Nov 2019
At one point in the show, Smith said Alberta’s boundaries are “totally arbitrary.”

“We only established our boundaries in 1905,” Smith noted. “If it’s only been 120 years or so, 115 years, why couldn’t we reconsider what our boundaries are and redraw them once again?”

Smith further suggested Alberta could “renegotiate our borders” in order to “correct this historic problem.”

While she conceded she does not know “if this would fly,” the former Wildrose leader ended her segment by concluding that the idea of a “new province of Alberta” that includes territory taken away from BC deserves some serious thought.

“Jeepers, if it’s as easy as an Order-in-Council, I say let’s maybe look at doing this,” Smith said.
.
Smith later tweeted a pair of maps showing how Alberta and Saskatchewan could gain access to “deepwater ports” by taking over northern BC and Manitoba.

Quote
In fairness to Premier Smith, Alberta already possesses many of the cultural prerequisites for post-modern nationhood.

It has a well-honed sense of victimhood and a political culture that rewards those who indulge it. It has a well-defined enemy (Liberal governments led by a Trudeau) whose apparent desire to suppress and oppress it dates back over multiple generations. And it is deeply invested in the belief that if only that boot was removed from its collective back, whether through the elimination of the carbon tax or removal of bills C-69 and C-48, it could finally thrive as it was meant to.
.
So no, hating Justin Trudeau, federal Liberals or their climate policies does not constitute nationhood. Neither does a desire for more power on the part of certain provincial politicians.

If Alberta and Saskatchewan want to merge and recreate the province of Buffalo, they can fill their cowboy boots. But claiming some unique sense of nationhood, and drawing a straight line to the precedent set by Quebec, falls somewhere between wishful thinking and outright delusion.
