I hate to say this, but between going back to work, COVID, and the Kamloops mass-grave, at first I wasn't impacted about the Muslim family that was killed in London as I normally would be.
The CBC has good article about the family and reading through it I finally shed some tears and felt connected to the story. What a tragic sudden loss of life. The wife graduated in Karachi as the only woman of a class of 170something people in engineering. She'd finished her masters and was doing her PhD. The husband worked as a physiotherapist in care homes and was very liked. They did a lot in the community, not just Muslim community.
Their nightly walks had become part of the COVID ritual. What a horrific ending. I'm sure many 'islamaphobes' would agree that they were not the type of Muslims that they should hate and fear.
The whole thing made me very sad. We like to think we're better than Americans but it's just that our crazies aren't as vocal and attention seeking (though there are exceptions).
That's twice in the last few years but I don't recall the US having any such incidents. Canada is rearing a very ugly head on islamaphobia. It's time to pay attention.
