Scheer should step down a leader.  He had a really good opportunity and lost.  Time for a change clearly.  Own your failure Scheer, stop making excuses.  You don't have what it takes, let someone else try.

I want people to get on the same damn page.  Try something new - if it doesn't work try again.

Well, first of all I forgot about that and I agree that it IS significant.  But personal views and political agenda can of course be separate and usually are I would think.

The anti-liberalism part is to not tolerate a divergent view based on religious belief.

You may need to investigate liberalism a little more.... ::)

Liberalism also generally espouses secular government.  So it’s completely fair, given Scheer’s record as a politician to try and legislate his religious views on others, to ask questions about it.

Sure i think your political views and personal views can be different, it then comes down to a matter of trust of the electorate towards the politician, and i don't think Scheer earned that trust.  He was all over the map with a bunch of his policies.

I also think people want a politician who believes in the policies he stands for.  It inspires people. Scheer lacked conviction and vison.  He would change his platform based on which way the political winds were blowing.  He was a follower, not a leader.

I think two major issues he flip flopped on were same sex marriage and abortion. When he was running to lead the party he agreed would allow debate to be opened on those issues. When he was running to run the country, he said he wouldn't. That type of obfuscation would affect where I marked my X.

The man failed.  He fired two top advisors, but the buck stops at his feet.

He sounds like Clinton, making all sorts of excuses for their losses to protect their egos.

Except Clinton did it with a lot more style.

Well, as I said that's valid but I think if a politician says they're not going to legislate something on the basis of their religion moving forward, their religiosity shouldn't be the basis of suspicion.  It wasn't for Singh and nobody (aside from far-right bloggers) said he would be compromised on foreign policy.

Really?  She was a disaster.  She was more competent and polished politically than Scheer, but i'm not here to compare.  They both lost and they both need to make themselves accountable for it and stop making excuses.  They were both crappy candidates, whether one was worse than the other that depends on your political leanings.

"I'm not here to compare" so now I'll just go ahead and compare. Funny!

Their religiosity is the basis of suspicion?   How do you figure?   It is Scheer’s lack of an answer to a question you say is valid that is the basis of suspicion.  And, as another poster mentioned, his responses to the religious-right groups, makes up the “suspicion”.

I also think being of the religious-right...  fighting against the rights of citizens to marry and for women to have bodily-autonomy rights in the past should actually be a reason for people not to vote for a person.  I think it should automatically exclude Scheer, and his party, from getting any votes.

So, yes...  it’s a fair question.

If you can tell me where Singh has, or would, legislate based on his religious views I would be happy to throw him and the NDP under the secular bus too.

Comparing who was worse is not the main point i was trying to mean is what i'm saying.  Who cares who was better or worse, they both lost, they both need to be put out to pasture as federal leader candidates & take responsibility for their losses.

Removing the multitude of conspiracy theories, what exactly made Clinton a crappy candidate. This is a serious question. I did not like her, but most of the expressed issues against her had zero basis in fact.

Because there's a double-standard around Christianity vs other religions, I believe.  Scheer didn't answer a question, or answered it poorly but if he said he's not going to legislate these matters then who cares what his personal opinion is ?

Right, but if the battle has been won should we never vote for a Christian again ?  And should we never vote for Muslims ?
