Harper's ad-buy in the NY Times praising Trump's decision to pull out of the Iran deal shows that he is not above trying to undermine the government of Canada.

Who is the leader of the CPC anyway....?   Where is Scheer hiding???

Harper also put an ad in the Wall Street Journal when he was an opposition MP apologizing to Americans that Canada didn't join the Iraq war.   Which side is he on???

What exactly do you think he could say that would make things worse?

You know what I would say to Bolton if I was him? I'd say that this is helping Trudeau and rallying the country behind him, which undermines the Opposition Conservatives, and asking him if US interests were better served with another four years of Trudeau and a hostile Canada on their border or a Conservative government winning next year which would be much closer to US security needs and see the world more like them than the progressive Liberals. And I'd make the point that under NAFTA 99% of the trade between us is tariff free.

Now how does that harm Canada?

Um, it was Trump who threw up the trade tariffs against Canada et al. Just to remind you.

Luckily we had a man in office at the time who had enough balls to stand up to Bush and just say "Non" to an illegal war.

If Trump is wondering why Canada is hostile, he need look no farther than the mirror. If 99% of trade is tariff free under NAFTA, how does that harm the US?

Are you saying private citizen Harper is not permitted to sign petitions and the like?

Which means he can take them down.

It was never Canada he was after. It was Mexico. Canada threw in a bunch of progressive demands and scurried over to stand next to the Mexicans, saying the Americans had to deal with both together.

Which means he can take them down.

And if he had half a brain in his head he wouldn't have put them in place to start with.

Harper may not may things worse but he does complicate things, and - yes - it is decorum to let the government lead the way on international discussions.  I am frankly surprised that he would be pulling this.  I don't impugn motives so let's hope he's trying to help out, somehow.

What do you mean like what? As a couple, as a menage a tois. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Mexico! That sort of thing.

Clearly you're mistaken. Half a brain is exactly what he has.

Realistically, who would you think would be more likely to negotiate a reasonable agreement with the Trump administration? Justin Trudeau or Stephen Harper? And at least they respect Harper.
