Government of Canada GBA+ Course
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:33:47 pm »
The Government of Canada requires GBA+ (Gender-Based Analysis Plus) assessments to take place for decision-making processes. Information about what GBA+ is, why they use it, etc. is freely available online. This may be interesting for some of you but then for others you'll probably just disregard the science as "woketard nonsense."

I wonder why the process wasn't integrated into exisiting program design practices ?

It strikes me as odd that they would create a separate design process rather than improve .... whatever it's called today.

Also how the government works is a complete mystery to me anyway.

I only have had a little experience with it and I didn't understand it then either....

Also while we are untangling the differences between sex and gender and its effects on people.

Persons with feminine genders regardless of biological sex are at higher risk for poorer outcomes after heart attacks.

This is incorporated into existing practices, sorry.

Design practices that force you to look at what you're producing from the eyes of the user are essential.  And adopting them is sometimes a head-turner.

I worked for a company that did work for the GTAA - the Toronto Airport basically.  They were trying to see where their users came from.  Of course Google was #1... Yahoo... other popular sites... but WAAAY up there was a site called 51.ca

What the hell was it ?

https://www.51.ca/

Of course you can't think like another person.  You have to ask them what they think.  Presumably they got  a lot of non-english speakers into a focus group, added prominent symbology etc.

You can't know other experiences, but it helps to understand that your experiences shape your initial reactions and judgments unconsciously which then affects other people's lived experiences (as well as your own honestly). The key points for this forum here are understanding the differences between sex and gender (ie, why gender is a constructed), understanding the differences between equality and equity in program development and evaluation, and understanding what intersectionality actually is and how it affects literally everyone (as opposed to being the "oppression Olympics").

Looking at all variables is important in making policy because that's how you do proper social science.  So I don't have an issue with GBA+, other than maybe the title which seems politicized.  Gender is no more important than any other variable.

I do think there's politicization happening, and I'm down on that because I believe that we need to start DEpoliticizing social policy and just do it, with all-party support.  There's no advantage of diversity of opinions as to who gets human rights and who doesn't.  Minds won't be changed.

Instead, just do what effectively has been done: phase in these changes over time.

There is no DEpoliticizing policy...  policy is politics.

Human rights are inherently political.

They don't have to be.

"Policy is Politics"

Is it ?  Does it have to be ?  Maybe it is by definition but there are lots of things that government does that are not made the subject of debate by "the" public (really the masses).

I think most of what Canadians care about are services.  I think rights should be decided by courts.  We can talk about ...

Wait a second ...  ??? ... do I hate democracy ?

Nah.  I still want elections.... Whew.

Sure...  the stuff that really doesn’t matter or impact anyone outside of government.
