The self-defense claim is this:
https://www.chch.com/dale-king-found-not-guilty-of-second-degree-murder/
"King has told the court it was self defence because he thought Al-Hasnawi had a knife and was going to stab his friend."

And that's why he carries an illegal concealed weapon with hollow point ammunition.

Though  it's unclear what part these facts may have played in the jury's decision,
It's also unclear whether Al-Hasnawi might not have died otherwise, and the charge would not have been murder:
What role should the paramedics play in the verdict?
Al-Hasnawi's death made national news in part because of the perceived actions of the paramedics who treated him.

Nearly 40 minutes passed between paramedics arriving on scene and Al-Hasnawi arriving at an emergency room. Witnesses say they told Al-Hasnawi he'd been shot with a BB gun. One reportedly told Al-Hasnawi he should win an Oscar for his acting ability. Witness Steve Ryan said they even made Al-Hasnawi walk to the ambulance himself.

Al-Hasnawi lost consciousness four minutes before he reached the hospital, the court heard. He died moments later at the hospital with two litres of blood in his abdomen.

Steven Snively, 53, of Hamilton, and Christopher Marchant, 29, of Whitby, face charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life. They'll be on trial next year.

Maybe just read the facts, wilber. I'm not going to repeat what's in the articles.
This is a tragedy all around, with several complicating factors, including the role of police and paramedics in Al-Hasnawi's death.
I'm not defending the actions of any of those involved.

The facts are he has had five previous assault convictions and he killed someone with a prohibited weapon using a dumdum bullet.

IMO people should reserve comment on trial decisions unless they've seen and heard all the evidence.

His being used as FN was used as a defence.

And he also used the defence that this was out of character from him, which is patently untrue based on his rap sheet.

I didn't say he didn't use that as a defence (although, I didn't read where this was actually a defence at trial).  I said you don't know why the jury found him not guilty.  Was this even an effective defence?  Was it something else that made them think he wasn't guilty?  How can you know?
