Debate starts in 10 minutes. Grab some popcorn, and watch the fun.

Jagmeet was impressive. Excellent speaker and seemed like the only normal person in the room. He was pretty funny when he wanted to be too.

Trudeau seemed nervous, as usual.

Scheer seemed like a prick (Who starts right in calling people a fraud before even saying "how do you do?").

May seems like she'd be an excellent social studies teacher.

I didn't understand a thing Bloc guy said, but that didn't matter as usual.

Jagmeet seems to believe some of the stuff he says but just doesn't know anything but vagueness due to almost no experience in federal politics.

Trudeau is all doublespeak and talking points and sounds like a windup doll.

Scheer is all about campaign strategy, he sold out his convictions because he doesn't think they're electable.

May is the only one with conviction and speaks what she believes, too bad her ideas are insane.

Nobody cares about Bloc loser.

Bernier has some communication issues due to language & is too ignorant.

So after all that blather, how will you mark your ballot?

I too agree with Poonlight's analysis. I forgot about Bernier and kind of had him lumped in my head with the Bloc guy. They should have run together. They seem kind of the same. They both were somewhat incomprehensible but seemed to be on about immigrants and globalism

Scheer was obsessed with attacking Trudeau for political points and didn't have his head in the actual debate.

I didn't understand what Bloc guy was saying about tiny biceps, but it seemed pretty funny.

Inexperienced both in politics and business, but at least Singh's a really decent guy, which can't be said about Trudeau, Scheer or Bernier (don't know Bloc guy well but he seems more sensible).

That's what some people will always say about brilliant innovators.
The Wright brothers were "insane" for thinking people could fly.
Bertrand Russell’s Commandments of Critical Thinking and Democratic Decency:
“Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.”

You will be gobsmacked when you see how easy it is to implement the Green economy:
Shift 30% of fossil fuel subsidies to renewable energy.
That's it, that's all.
Market forces take care of the rest: Investors shift their money, consumers shift their buying. Done.

It would be "insane" for governments not to shift public subsidies to renewable energy.

I forgot about Bernier and kind of had him lumped in my head with the Bloc guy.

Well they both talked about indigenous affairs like the question was about Quebec. Bernier is still a separatist at heart.

Jagmeet and Elizabeth had the clearest articulated points. Jusitin was a bit in defense mode, but he laid a couple of blows to Andrew. Yves-François had a few good points, but I disagreed strongly with a lot else he said. Andrew was basically spending all his time attacking Justin. Maxime was sometimes interesting to listen to, but mostly a right wing zealot.

All the moderators did a decent job keeping things on track. There was no time for introductory or closing remarks, although most of the candidates wasted the first question on that and ignored what was asked.

That sums up what is wrong with the debates. They are viewed as a sporting event. While I argree politics is our national sport, it doesn't show us who would be the best administrator. Government is not a one (wo)man show. It is a team. In a crisis, it is the cabinet and advisors who actually resolve the issue. A person who thinks they can think on their feet is not the person you want in the command seat.

EMay has said she'll step down as leader, but the timing is uncertain: With a minority, an election can happen anytime.
She has the confidence of her people, she's worked hard, told the truth, avoided mudslinging, and at 65, she deserves an easier road.

Elizabeth May has earned much respect, and she has changed the political conversation in Canada: Every Party had to have a climate change policy this time to be credible with their own voters. That's a huge accomplishment.
 I wish her well.
There's plenty more energy in the Green Party to come. :  )
