Conservative Party response to Coronavirus
« on: April 23, 2020, 03:26:01 pm »
I think this deserves its own thread....

We had the MP for Sarnia, who was Health Critic at one point, come out and say there’s a cure for COVID-19 And all sorts of other bat-**** crazy conspiracies.  Then saying she was taken out of context.

Now, we have this Conservative Party MP:

Quote
Derek Sloan, an MP from rural Ontario and one of four candidates in the leadership race, sent an email to supporters about chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam, asking “does she work for Canada or China” in guiding this country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While there were calls for Scheer to denounce Sloan’s remarks, in a tense back-and-forth with reporters Thursday the outgoing party leader refused to discuss them at all.

I take it by Scheer’s refusal to comment, that he is endorsing them.

WTF is the Conservative Party doing?  Why are they letting the crackpots take centre stage and lead the herd?  Or maybe these people are the party...

of course Scheer/CPC have pitchfork rallied against the World Health Organization; one of the CPC's more fervent foot-soldiers, MP Michael Cooper, so loyally re-tweeted the Trump lie... and then stood up in the HOC to repeat the false charge. The Guardian article extract below, refutes the false charges from Trump/Cooper:

Michelle Rempel has taken to tweeting her displeasure with her colleague....

https://mobile.twitter.com/MichelleRempel/status/1253445749813260291

and promptly gets lambasted by what seem to be her party faithful?  I dunno though...  hard to tell with Twitter if these are normal conservatives, or just a group of alt-right nutcases trolling her tweets.

Why does anyone post anything on Twitter?  It’s a fkn cesspool.

Social conservatives are science deniers, there is a long history of it since the Renaissance.  They've resisted everything from atheism, round earth, evolution and climate change.  It's their raison-d'etre.

It naturally follows that covidiots would be (social) conservative too.

ETA - I guess fiscal conservatives too but for different reasons.  They tend to believe in science, but their dog eat dog view resists social cooperation so they end up covidiots because they only care about themselves.

The always reasonable, hard to believe he’s a CPC MP, Michael Chong also condemned his fellow MP’s idiocy.

There's a very small handful of CPC MP's who aren't completely insane, he's one of them.

A lot of conservatives are dumb ignorant a-holes, while a lot of progressives are naive wimpish fools.  Lesson: people are stupid.

Just the young progressives can be stereotyped like that.  Not my generation or older.

Whereas right-wingers don't evolve.  Young and old, they're pretty similar.

The wimpish fools haven’t completely taken over a political party though.  They are, literally, fringe groups on the left.  On the right, the lunatics are mainstream.

Well look at the leaders.  Although I will fully admit there are bigger wimps and bigger fools than them in their parties.  There are virtue signallers, and then there are complete nutbars.  In other words, things could be much worse.

Scheer is all over the CERB fraud boogeyman.   How about right after they catch and prosecute all the rich tax frauds, then they go after the CERB issue?

Just give everyone free money, then they won't have to commit fraud.

Friend of mine is a small business person. He was talking to his tax accountant the other day and the accountant told him he had another client who wanted him to fudge hs books so his kids could get CERB. You bet there is fraud going on. And then you have businesses who can't get people because CERB is making it possible to take the summer off.
