As a party member, I will be voting for anyone who can defeat Leitch or O'Leary.  Then, unless Chong gets in, I won't be voting for a Conservative in the election.

I think Chong is the only one who can actually bring in votes from outside their party.

Agreed, I think he'd do well for bringing in new votes for the party.  The real question is whether he's conservative enough for the CPC base.

The west will do what it always does, vote conservative, the party needs someone that can have a national appeal, but particularly in Ontario and Quebec, of those I think Bernier fits best.

The West doesn't always vote Conservative.  Reform is proof of that.  The CPC can't be complacent like the PCs were.

I like O'Leary because he has been on television before, and doesn't break down crying like others. No other reason than that.

It's also proof that the fptp system works fine as a party with a good message and connects with voters can knock off established parties.

O'Leary's people claim to have no sold 15,000 memberships and collected $500,000 in donations.

How do you figure? The Reform party didn't get a single seat until the Progressive Conservatives imploded in 1993.

The reform party had a seat earlier by deb gray the first reform mp.  My point is, if people are tired of the status quo, it is possible to change it.  The ndp is another example in the 60's.  It's good as it keeps parties responsible or another party can take votes.

Sorry, I was thinking about general elections.

FPTP results in a two-party system, and that is not representative of the diversity of the population. Look at what a two party system delivered for our southern neighbours.

I'm quite certain that Reform winning 20% of the popular vote was a big part of the reason why the PCs imploded in 1993.

Except it's not resulting in a two party system.  If a party wants power it has to make compromises.  In the USA it's representative of their population as if a candidate isn't liked they get turfed out in primaries.  Perhaps that's incentive for people to get more involved at the grass roots level in nominating candidates that reflect their views

Well O'Leary stirred the pot by this comment at the debate. I wonder if the party will shift at all as he suggests they must.

“So LGBTQI done, marijuana done, reproductive rights 100 percent. Get used to it, that is the definition of the Conservative Party of Canada going forward,” said O’Leary.

I hope he's right. I have a lot of concerns about the financial direction of the country, but I'll never vote Conservative if it means swallowing a plate full of social-conservative dog-crap.
