And a lot of people who are left of centre too.

No question.

Next time you are at a party with your Conservative friends, bring along an O'Leary's cold dead fish.

Last chance to join the Conservative party so you can vote for someone liberal!

I believe I will be voting for O'Toole, myself.

I thought you disliked his immigration stance?

I'm not enthusiastic about it but immigration is not the be all and end all of what I'm looking for in a prime minister. I only see a few possible good candidates, people who seem qualified and seem like they could go up against Trudeau. O'Leary is great as a combative, media savvy guy but I don't want him to be my prime minister. There's no evidence he has a heart, for one thing. For another, I don't think he knows much about how government works.  Scheer seems like a strong possibility but he's got no experience at anything. Bernier has some nice proposals but his English is lousy and I don't think he can beat Trudeau with his past. The rest are nobodies.

Why does your Prime Minister need to wear blue underwear? Why are you not looking at non-Conservative alternatives?

I looked at Mulcair last time around, and was seriously considering him. If he'd have been a Liberal I probably would have voted for him. If Garneau had been made the leader I would have voted for him. Trudeau is simply not an option, and the way the NDP race is looking they're going to pull a Corbyn and make themselves unelectable.

Why would people vote for O'Leary when they could just skip the middle-man and vote Satan?  Oh that's right, Satan doesn't star in his own reality show.  Unless you count The Bachelor.

If the Conservatives choose O'Leary, I hope the Liberals run a hard campaign of "he's not here for you" like the CPC did for Ignatieff.

Let's not be silly. O'Leary isn't even as bad as Trump, not NEARLY as bad as Trump, and tens of millions voted for Trump.
O'Leary's chances would depend on how the economy is performing at the time of an election, and how much people were getting worried about the rising deficit.

I would assume they would, but according to O'Leary, he and his family moved back to Canada years ago, his kids go to school here, and he pays taxes here. He lives in Toronto, has a cottage in Muskoka, and houses in Boston and Geneva.

And it would be a little hypocritical (not that that would stop them) given the Liberals themselves keep insisting that anyone who's had a passport for three minutes is every bit as much a Canadian as someone born and raised here. This is also a party which lowered the residency requirements for immigrants last year, and specifically removed the need for immigrants to promise to reside in Canada.

And while my memory is imperfect, I believe our esteemed moderator was one of those arguing that there was nothing wrong with that, and that there was no reason someone couldn't be a Canadian while living in Hong Kong and doing all their business there.

Yeah, I did say that.  I think that it's okay for Canadians to live and work in many countries around the world - I think it's been part of the Canadian experience for a lot of people for a long time.  That's not the same thing as being a Canadian of convenience.

I also think that the Liberals would be right to do that O'Leary.  Why not?

And it would be a little hypocritical

It would be more than a little hypocritical for the Conservatives to support a foreign leader, given the endless campaign we endured during the Ignatieff years.

Would you care to explain the contradiction here? Or is it just a matter of "Who cares if its true or hypocritical if it works?"
