Lets refrain from questioning the occupational competency of others- it doesn't really serve discussion.

OK. But I do stick to my guns on the issue that it is a lot more serious than simply a bad joke. Flagrant support for any political party/politician by a sitting judge in an open court is definitely not allowed, and especially a politician who has so clearly displayed racist/xenophobic ideals.

But the judge was a Canadian judge, and Trump was not running for Canadian office.
Trump - Watch what he does, not how he says it.

Now there's a flimsy attempt at deflection if I've ever seen one! Anybody that watches TV or reads a paper knows the kinds of racist/xenophobic statements Trump has made. It doesn't matter what court room you are in, you shouldn't have to face a judge touting any politician. Especially one with such extreme attitudes.

Our two countries are proud, independent and separate countries!

And that has what to do with the issue at hand? This judges actions just obfuscated at least the first two of those.

Judges and lawyers are REALLY particular about the perception of evenhandedness and fairness. He didn't make biased decisions and that's why the punishment wasn't more severe.

I understand that.   I was responding to Omni's freak-out over the possibility of encountering a judge who has a political bias. Every judge has a political bias.  This one had the bad sense to advertise his, but that doesn't mean he's the only judge with political bias.

I bet the judge who asked the **** victim why she didn't keep her legs together wasn't wearing a MAGA hat.

So you prefer to swim in the cesspool rather than pointing it out? That's a real "freakout" to me.

Yeah, I don't think that's what she said.   She's right, all people have biases - including judges - but that doesn't mean she revels in it.  She's just realistic.

I don't think people should be able to tell other people what to wear in the workplace.  It's like telling women to wear high heels.  I think the Judge should be able to wear whatever he wants on his head.  He should be judged on his performance.

Unless there was a danger he would hit his head.  Then he should be made to wear a hard hat.

Easy to say if you aren't a brown guy being stopped by someone wearing an "I love Joe Arpaio" hat.   :)

I assume you are talking about someone who wears a uniform at work.  That would be different, of course.  If one's conditions of employment require the wearing of a uniform, as mine did when I was in the army, then the employer has a right to dictate head coverings, as well as everything else about the employee's attire.

Judges also wear a 'uniform', do they not?

Are they required to as part of their job description?  Is headgear mentioned?  In England I believe they still wear wigs, but I don't know if it is mandated.

They definitely have a set dress code in Canada, including robes and a sash.

The legal profession has done an excellent job of policing itself. The "jeep your legs closed" judge was punished accordingly and so too has this judge.
