Except in California property prices are inflated by restrictive land use regulations. This creates a situation where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

The place has the population of Canada and hell of a lot of people want to live there. Check out Seattle prices some time.

Heaven forbid we don't let people build whatever they want where they want.

Seattle has the same problem. I read a story of a builders attempt to build affordable housing units that ended up costing 50% more once the busybody bureaucrats were done with it. Most of the issues were unnecessary luxuries such as minimum size requirements that are ridiculous given the demand and the size of housing in densely populated cities in other countries.

There has been a lot of additional gerrymandering with republicans controlling the state houses in a big way since 2010:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2012
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2016

In this election, there was a small reprieve in one state:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/27/us/north-carolina-congressional-districts.html

How much impact does gerrymandering have. Well, look at North Carolina. Democrats got more than 50% of the vote (1,748,173) to (1,643,790) for Republicans.

They came away with 3 of the 13 congressional seats.

I wish California had 1/4 of the population, then I'd probably go live there.  The weather is amazing. It's always sunny & almost never rains, and no humidity.  Which I guess is why the place is always on fire.

There are lots of places with much lower density than the Bay Area or LA.

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has only been a US Representative for 2 days and she has already been rocked by a shocking scandal!

Republicans have found footage of her in her college days... dancing!

DANCING! Can you believe it!?

Not naked. Not on a pole.  With her clothes on.  Apparently in an homage to a scene from the movie "Clerks" where Rosario Dawson dances on a rooftop.

Stunning. Shocking. I am speechless. SPEECHLESS.

This is the stupidest scandal since the outrage over Barack Obama's tan suit.

This has apparently backfired and people are laughing at those who posted the video. As for AOC she posted another dancing video... dancing as she entered her office.

It's like they forgot the rules their new president has set.

He was in a Pizza Hut commercial.  He wrestled.

Side note: I was going to admonish the person who started this thread for being too specific, but it's me.

The other scandal involving new US Representatives, involves Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who was recorded on video saying "Impeach the motherfucker!"  in regard to what's his name.

This drew howls of outrage from Republicans who want "civility", including Trump himself, event though he's the most uncivil person in politics since Andrew Jackson when around shooting people in duels or pummeling the snot out of people with his hickory cane.

Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi said it wouldn't have been her choice of words but added that she's not in the censorship business.

Former Prime Minister Kim Campbell jumped into the debate yesterday, pointing out on Twitter that "He really IS a motherfucker!"

Trump's hypocrisy is only exceeded by his stupidity. I wonder what the place will look like if he does close down government for "years" if need be while he gets all pissy pants over his stupid wall! It doesn't seem like the dems in the house will give in any time soon on this issue.

He'd probably try and grab her by the P***y as she enters the WH.
