Trophy Hunting
« on: January 14, 2018, 09:00:03 pm »
Just watching "Trophy" on CNN. What a sick bunch. I guess they can't get it up any other way than chasing around a big animal with a jeep and then shooting it to cut the head off to nail up in their trophy room. What kind of brain dead moron would enjoy shooting a giraffe?

Yeah, I'm at my liberal best when I want to deny the right of others to pursue happiness by killing things they want to kill.

I hasten to add I have nothing against hunting so long as it's done humanely and the meat ends up in the freezer. A bunch of multi millionaires running around dressed and armed as if they were some sort of US special forces guys dropping animals so they can cut the head off and mount it in their "trophy" room, with all the others, seems a little whacky to me.

You do know that these millionaires pay huge dollars to do these hunts, these hunts are sanctioned by these governments who profit from these animal resources ,  ..... but also provide a source of income to guides , camp staff, local economy etc.....the meat is normally given to the locals to consume....you don't have to go all the way to africa to find these hunts they happen in Canada all the time, polar bear, grizzly bears, buffalo, salmon, moose , deer, you name it.....Money buys anything, including the heads of any animal ....it's an multi billion dollar industry...

The Miramichi river allows citizens to own the water way rights, meaning they own the fish in front of their property, if other want to fish their they have to pay the owner......

Did you know there is certain spots on the miramichi that regular Canadian citizens are not allow to fish, it is reserved for the PM and his close gang, so they can impress other political persons or VIP's ....most US presidents have fished there.

Oh I'm well aware of all that, and I used to wander around the woods back in Ontario in the fall deer season. I enjoyed walking through the woods with my buddies, and who doesn't like to be able to go to the freezer and pull out a venison steak for a BBQ dinner. But I would certainly never have thought to put my kid on the back of a dead deer to hold it's head up with it's tongue hanging out to take a lovely family picture. And then are of course those guys who have to run around cutting the horns off of Hippo's so those trying to become rich don't drive the species into extinction to get those horns because some rich idiot in Viet Nam thinks it will finally allow him to get a hard on.

Trophy hunting is just creepy and so are those who do it. They never grew out of pulling wings off flies.

I get the appeal: the adventure, power, the primal and masculine nature of it all, and they actually are enjoying nature in a way.  But given how we've dwindled the #'s of a lot of beautiful big animals like this, it doesn't seem ethical.  Unless there's very healthy populations of them and you plan on eating it.  It comes off pretty childish, from a time society has moved past.

That's my point i guess, it happens here in Canada every year, and as long as everyone is getting paid, nobody gives a rat ass, Polar bear hunting is a huge industry, even with declining numbers or it was a couple of years ago, you got the cash you get to shot a bear, here in NB black bear hunting attracts hunters from all over the globe, it is a huge industry.....because it pays the bills, getting your picture taken is part of the package it might not show respect for the animal, but really you've already killed it, taking a picture is the least of it's worries now...As for trophy hunting How many homes in Canada does not have a set of deer, or moose antlers in it some where.....normally the garage.....is that not a trophy....I think it is, and i'd say it is part of our culture....accepted for the most part....that is until some rich guy wants in on the action....

Canada is the only country left that allows commercial hunting of Polar Bears, which is the greatest threat to their population after global warming. So whoopee for Canada when we kill the last one. Hopefully people will come to their senses sooner rather than later. The only thing that hangs in my garage is a horse shoe over the door. And I can assure you I didn't have to kill a horse to get it.

What appeal and adventure? It isn' particularly dangerous or masculine. How many trophy hunters are killed by their prey? Why do people think these animals exist just so they can get their jollies from killing them?

Do you really think we are going to come to our senses....then add money to the equation and the next polar bear you see is in some ZOO. and while you might not have a deer rack over your garage door, millions of canadians do, and it is sponsored by our government and the industry behind it.....all driven by money... and our hunger for meat and BBQ's, that's not going to stop any time soon, well until there is none left...

Maybe. BC just banned Grizzly hunting. Public pressure will win in the end.

Killing things with big guns is a masculine pursuit, so society tells us.  Adventure would be trouncing around remote and/or exotic places like African savannah and whatnot.  I never claimed it was dangerous.

I'm not saying I agree with it in any way whatsoever, I'm saying I see why these people do it.  They obviously do it for a reason:  adventure, power etc.
