This is the starting of a trade war between Canada and the US.
I saw one funny tweet congratulating Mexico for getting Canada to pay for the wall...
The US brings up this softwood lumber thing up every few years, and when it goes to arbitration they always lose. Their accusations of unfair stumpage fees fall apart when you dig into the fact that most logging done in Canada is done on crown land and in the US it's done on private land and therefore those fees fluctuate to where it's hard for a business in the US to assess one of their main ongoing costs. Anyway maybe this is Trump's way of trying to make sure it's all US wood that goes into building this "border wall" which seems to now becoming maybe more like a picket fence.
