Key word is "prancing".

I've never connected the word "prancing" with sexual orientation.  "Mincing", sure, but not "prancing".

Prancing is not the exclusive domain of gay people.  I don't think prancing suggests homosexual, I think it suggests effeminate, which is surely what Jones was getting at.    If your Facebook friends have decided to connect the dots between "effeminate" and "homosexual", perhaps that says something about them, rather than about Doug Jones.

Ok, so questioning masculinity was necessary to win this.  Another level of fail needed to win.

Roy Moore branded himself as the champion of Christian values, so he was inviting people to scrutinize his "values".  Roy Moore crafted this image of being a manly-man's man, so he was begging people to ridicule his fake cowboy image.  The Daily Beast column has it right.

Some responses could have been:

- that doesn't matter
- he's not a real man, he's a girly girl

They went for #2.

I just heard Faux news reporting that Moore still hasn't conceded and has in fact asked for donations to help fund an investigation into voter fraud. I guess he's trying to go along the same path as his buddy Trump except Moore didn't have the EC to pick up the slack and seat him as Trump did.

I appreciate what you're trying to say, Michael, but I don't really think you can have a substantive debate with people who are planning to vote for a guy because he wears a cowboy hat and whips out his little pistol at a campaign rally.

It may be sad, but it's a reality: for a large number of voters, elections aren't about issues, they're about clan loyalty.  There are many voters, on both sides,  who simply refuse to be swayed.  That's why Republican turnout was low in this election, and why such an unusually large number of Republican voters made the effort to go to the polls just to vote for a football coach instead of their party's candidate.

For the voter who votes Moore because "he's gonna go to Washington and fight them homersexuals and put God back in our schools and stand up for Baby Jesus" ...I think making fun of Moore's fake cowboy act is probably about as effective as any other argument. There's no point trying to reason with such people.  And it's probably less about attacking Moore and more about firing up Jones' own supporters.   Making fun of Stephen Harper's Village People cowboy vest didn't make Harper's own supporters abandon him, but it did boost the morale of his opponents.   Getting your own supporters in high spirits before the election could be the difference between "We're going to go to the polls and beat that fake cowboy!" and "meh, this is a lost cause, I'm going to stay home and watch Netflix."

Hmmmm...

Unplanned, but ... hmmm.

So all of the overseas and provisional ballots are now in, and they only received about 5000.  Not nearly enough to make a difference, even if all of them were for Moore.  Not close to the 0.5% margin to trigger a recount.

There is an Alabama law allowing a candidate to pay for their own recount even if the margin is wider.  But that apparently only applies to state elections, not federal ones.  So Moore is finished. The Alabama secretary of state says the vote should be certified by next week.

I can expect that Moore will keep on going, because he knows Jeeeeezus wants him to be in the Senate.

The home of one of the Roy Moore accusers has been burnt to the ground under suspicious circumstances.

https://www.centralmaine.com/2018/01/06/fire-at-home-of-roy-moore-accuser-may-have-been-arson/

...and now Joe Arpaio wants to run for Senate, to replace Jeff Flake.

This conservative site calls the situation "Roy Moore on steroids":
Quote
Don’t tell us there isn’t an intelligent, committed conservative in Arizona without Arpaio’s baggage who can run and win. Arpaio getting in that race makes it impossible for such an intelligent, committed Arizona conservative to gain suitable traction, and it makes Arizona’s Senate race a precise rerun of the Alabama special election in 2017, wherein the obvious proper Republican nominee Mo Brooks found himself sandwiched between an unsatisfactory establishment tool in Luther Strange and an unsatisfactory electoral loser in Moore.

We'll see if Republicans have once again hit the bullseye.
