After looking at the stats I realized that if i'm not living in a gang run inner city neighbourhood and not prone to suicide, there is little to worry about in terms of gun violence. Sure there will always be some maniac or terrorist throwing a wrench into the stats, but all in all, I think the random gun violence is overrated. Call me an optimist, I suppose.
This is a healthy attitude. There's no point stressing over gun violence. Outside of gangsters, most people don't have to worry about it. You're far more likely to die in traffic. There seems like so little point in trying to fix this issue using legislation and so-on, when in the big picture the effect is so miniscule. Likewise terrorism. The threat of terrorism is even less significant than the threat of gun violence. Why do people get so stressed about it? All the hassle and expense we go to trying to stop terrorism, yet terrorism affects so few people. It hardly even seems worth it. Why not spend all that money on something that would save more lives?
These are emotional events, but we shouldn't let emotion rule our response to these events. We should use are heads and stop overreacting.
