How am I making excuses for the GOP?  I don't like the GOP and I already agreed with you that they gerrmander and already try to rig elections in other ways.  Myy point was that they can't gerrymader the POTUS.

I'm not saying the US doesn't lean Democrat vs GOP.  As for whether the US is progressive or not, that depends on your definition, there's obviously different levels of being progressive.  Bernie and AOC are more progressive than Biden and Hillary and Obama.  My point is that Americans aren't as far to the left as the media makes us believe.  Major media out of NYC and LA and twitter users are not representative of the US population as a whole.  A lot of Americans might like Obama, but many might also think Bernie is too far to the left for them, that's what happened in the 2016 primaries where Bernie didn't have support in the southern states like he did in the North.
