Trump... only the best people... of course, GOP Senate 'automatically' confirms the guy as Trump's Labor Secretary

U.S. DOJ opens investigation into Alexander Acosta plea deal

Quote
The Justice Department said Wednesday that it's investigating a plea deal that Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta negotiated with billionaire **** Jeffery Epstein while serving as a U.S. attorney in 2008.

In a letter to Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote that the Office of Professional Responsibility had “opened an investigation into allegations that department attorneys may have committed professional misconduct in the manner in which the Epstein criminal matter was resolved.“

“OPR will thoroughly investigate the allegations of misconduct that have been raised,” Boyd wrote, “and, consistent with its practice, will share the results with you at the conclusion of its investigation as appropriate.”

Although nearly all of the key details of the plea bargain were known to senators at the time Acosta was confirmed as Labor secretary, the strikingly lenient arrangement, under which Epstein served a year and enjoyed daily furloughs to his office, received new scrutiny this year when the Miami Herald published a lengthy reexamination of the case.
