Well, I thought I was making a funny observation, and she thought I was laughing at strippers. She basically heard my comments as "lol, Kid Rock is so trashy. lol, strippers are so tacky. lol, I'm kimmy, I think I'm better than everybody else."  She felt that people looked down on her for her occupation, and it was a touchy subject.

Ahhh, that makes more sense.  It probably would not have been an issue if you were a dancer yourself but because you weren't it was taken the wrong way.

It's kind of like the reason why black people can call each other 'nigga' but a totally non-racist white person still shouldn't use the word even if there is no malice behind it.

When power dynamics are not equal, innocent jokes and terms of endearment can be take the wrong way and whether we like it or not, we do have a totem pole in society and women in any form of sex trade are frowned upon.

There was a scene in zootopia where the bunny says 'only bunnies can call other bunnies cute' and it's true even though it's a difficult concept for some non-bunnies to understand.

Of course it's small things like that that are another drop in the bucket of social engineering.  Subtle political comments placed in kid's movies like that might seem cute, but when the bucket gets full, it really becomes very negative.

What absurdist nonsense are you on about now?

"**** Disney! Teaching kids not to be bigots!"

Well, what message did BC Chick get from that small comment.  Why did she draw a comparison to "niggas"?  That it's not about what is said, but who is saying it.  In other words, it's not about teaching kids not to bigots, it's about separating races and putting people (or animals) into a categories.

I enjoyed that movie, but it's full of stereotypes and social engineering.

I didn't just talk about whites using 'niggas', I used other examples too where in societal hierarchy even the best intended comments can be taken the wrong way when power-dynamics are not equal.

Micro-aggressions are unintended reinforcements of these power dynamics but it's isn't ONLY about race.  It can even be someone's profession as I implied when that person is a sex-worker.

But people are still opening their wallets and scanning their credit cards to buy Disney.  As such, it still stands as a homogenizing and centrist cultural institution.  You can tell because the left and right both complain about it.  Thank God there's still something.  Maybe they can make a movie to explain to people not to bring guns to protest events.

But you did draw a direct parallel between "only bunnies can call other bunnies cute" and "only blacks can call other blacks "nigga""?  That in itself proves my point.

If anyone thinks that a comment like that shows up in a movie organically and without political intent, they would be very naive.  Disney movies are full of it, and no, it's not centrist.

If it's not centrist, how to they sell it ?  Just because they're putting down morals you don't agree with, doesn't make it non-centrist.  There are a lot of things about Disney that are traditional and conservative also.  They pick a mushy middle morality and sell it.  And people buy it.

Zootopia had some politics, but as MH said, there was more to the story than that.  As for that particular line in the movie, as I have indicated twice now, it can be used in the context of occupations too, it's not just about race.

It all comes down to human relations, a common theme of Disney.  You can keep making it about race though if you want.

No, it's not just about race - as I said, it's more about categorizing identity groups...regulating how we talk, who we address and how.  It's the democratic playbook of identity politics.  The fox isn't allowed to call the bunny cute because the bunny is historically a victim of the fox.
Look, I think the politics slipped in to children's movies escapes most of you, but it is there, and it's not by accident either.

So if I get what you're saying, Hal, you feel that Disney is being insensitive to white people who want to call black people "nigga", and you feel that Disney, as a big corporation with a broad audience, should take a neutral stance on the "nigga" issue.
Is that more or less it?

If you think that Disney isn't centrist, look at the complaints from the left - there are plenty.

Miss Manners must seem like a fascist to you in how she regulates how you talk. How radical of her to tell you how to address people and when to say 'please' and 'thank you.' It's all just leftist social engineering!

Well TBH, I think you're not totally wrong.  As I review some movies in my thoughts, I suppose there is some social engineering that the left could take issue with, mainly in some of the older movies.  Moana is very feminist through and through, but also has some subtle points that the leftists might complain about.
