Constitution of 2018
« on: February 06, 2017, 11:13:42 am »
As was L. Cornelius Sulla named dictator to reconstitute the Roman Republic in 81 B.C., I hereby grant any of you the authority to write a new constitution to replace the Constitution of 1787 (as amended).

Caveats:
1. The Bill of Rights stays as is, including its present interpretations thereof.
2. the United States must remain a PRESIDENTIAL republic: no prime ministers, no kings.

Any takers?  :)

3.  I, Donald Trump, shall be your BEST President, ever
4.  Everyone shall admire and praise me
5.  No other President has ever been, nor ever will be as great as I am
6.  If anyone disagrees, I shall twitter them to death
7.  I will provide the most and best jobs every, the best and most security ever of any President, past or future
8.  All my public appearances will be attended by millions of people and will have standing ovations

Now that's good, I have to admit.

Sounds a bit like "I am the Donald, your President.  Thou shalt have no other presidents before me."

I was going to suggest a Semi Presidential Republic, but then I saw your caveat.  It's always been a government system I really like.

Excellent but you forgot.

There shall be no term limits and I get to name my successor.

Originally there weren't term limits.  Washington could have served until he dropped dead.

Quite true. FDR also served three terms and did serve until he dropped dead.

I can see the value in term limits, but I can also see the value in not having them.  I think I'd personally get rid of them myself.

Term limits are a check on the power of someone.  It is a good check on power so that it clearly defines a mandate and prevents despotism.

The last U.S. election shows how bad term limits are.
