Symbols are given meaning. Yeah. You seem to be complaining about that, as if you want to have your own personal meaning for things. It just doesn't work that way. Meaning is negotiated and socially constructed between people. It must be in order to be understood. You can feel free to completely ignore that fact, but then people will have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Words and symbols (like flags) have both
denotation as well as
connotation. If you ignore connotation, you're not getting the full meaning of symbols.
