America encapsulated in one news article
« on: October 30, 2018, 10:47:05 pm »
I think this article perfectly shows how America is becoming more and more polarized, as our media becomes more and more polarized.

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/cnn-slammed-as-disgraceful-after-jake-tapper-silent-when-guest-says-trump-radicalized-more-people-than-isis

CNN has gone from a fairly neutral news outlet (well, only caring about sponsors really) to a joke of a liberal mouthpiece.  FOX has long remained a joke of a conservative mouthpiece, and they double-down on the "CNN is a fake news anti-trump poophole" thingy.

Liberal media & their viewers hate Trump, Trump and supporters & rightwing media hate liberal media, each side digs in and keeps digging the hole deeper.  I guess we as viewers don't want more objective news anymore, we just want the news that confirms our ideological biases.  Cue the liberals who will defend CNN here, cue the conservative who will defend FOX here...

If Trump can be blamed for fueling these recent terrorist attacks in the US, then what about media like FOX News and CNN like in this article?

I agree.  I never listen to Fox news, but I can imagine what it's like.  (That's why I never listen to it)

And how I imagine it is definitely what I seem to be hearing now on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, etc.  They seem to think they no longer have to be objective.  It's quite disappointing at times.  Thank God for the BBC.

It's like everything is becoming spin now.  The news isn't trying to inform us anymore, more and more it's trying to convince us about something.  I'd rather make up my own mind and just have the facts.  I don't care about Don Lemon or Tucker Carlson's opinion on issues.  What PhD's do they have again?

She immediately corrected her comment. Now then, you are actually comparing Fox to CNN? I can't be bothered working with you on that.

Bull - CNN is the most balanced and factually correct news you can find in the US, and it was found to be so by politifact - nothing has changed there.  CNN has been challenging the ignorance and bullshit of the administration - that doesn't make them biased.

FOX is much, much worse.  But they both suffer from distinct biases that aren't exactly fair.  CNN is not The Globe And Mail.

As I predicted, cue the liberals defending CNN here, it took you one post to confirm your bias.  Now where's Taxme maybe he'll defend FOX and we can have ourselves a thread!

What about Anderson Cooper? Wolf Blitzer? Jake Tapper? Jim Acosta? Shephard Smith? Neil Cavuto? Bret Baier? Chris Wallace?

You can't colour either network by their worst actors.  Some of the men I named (Shep and Jim - not to Mention Jake and Anderson) are **** heroes in my book.

Where were they during the Dubya Bush administration & Iraq War?  AWOL, that's where.  To my great disappointment.  Meanwhile, MSNBC shredded that admin to bits.

In 2015 they have ranked CNN has the most factually correct cable news network.  There's only 3 main cable news networks in the US:  CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2015/jan/29/punditfact-checks-cable-news-channels/   I'd agree with that assessment, but that's a damned low bar.  Others are business news, or foreign owned (RT, BBC).  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cable_news

I've seen quite a shift to the left since Trump started to run for POTUS in 2015.  Again, where were they during the Bush years?  Show me CNN criticizing the Bush admin re: Iraq, then watch Keith Olbermann on MSNBC say this stuff every day over 2 terms, while i personally never saw anything even remotely like it in 8 years on CNN, not even from a pundit.

I don't understand - the Bush Administration was at least sane.  What CNN is criticizing now is insanity, and you expect them to act the same as they did before?  What's going on isn't normal, or okay.  The US is on the verge of civil collapse.

The Bush admin is 50000000x worse than the Trump admin, which is saying something because Trump admin is terrible.  Trump admin is nuts, but they haven't killed/injured however many thousands of US soldiers and many hundreds of thousands of Arabs (who they also tortured) based on countless horrible lies.  Saying and doing ignorant and racist stuff isn't even in the same ballpark as dropping bombs on people.  Offshore torture cages, which included children, are 1000000x worse than putting kids in cages away from their parents.  POTUS cabinet picks dedicated to lies in order to kill countless is 1000000x worse than some ignorant SCOTUS pick raping a woman 40 years ago & lying about it.

I'm sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong.  What the Bush administration did was par for the course for the US.  The US has always been at war.  They have always interfered in other countries.  The Trump administration has irreparably damaged the social contract in the US to the point where it's on the verge of becoming a failed state.

How many people has Trump killed and/or bombed?  How many governments has Trump removed and replaced in Americas image?

Trump has damaged a bunch of US institutions yes, the social contract has been damaged yes,  based on the very likely Russian meddling etc.  "Failed state" is hyperbole, that won't happen, his own men would kill him before that.  I see the danger but not like you do i guess.

Bush almost caused three failed states, literally, oversaw the US dive into the great recession etc.  Maybe if instead of killing 100k+ Arabs with bombs he lined them up and personally shot 100 of them every day on live TV in the press briefing room it would have been a bigger deal to you & CNN?

I wish it was hyperbole - the US is already consider a flawed democracy.  At this point, it isn't very far from serious civil unrest.
