Title: Report Recommends Consolidating General OR and ER Services in Winnipeg
Post by: JMT on February 08, 2017, 07:07:33 pm
A report tabled yesterday from the WRHA apparently recommends consolidating ER services and general surgery services to Winnipeg's two regional hospitals along with 1 community hospital.  The ERs would be replaced by urgent care centre facilities that operate the same way as an ER but only handle walk in level cases such as broken bones and cuts.

To me this makes sense.  Surgical and emergency services are ever more complicated and require more staff and equipment than ever.  Having them consolidated at 3 larger facilities would mean that they would be available all the time and probably be better equipped.
