Conservative Party leadership race

It seems like mostly a bunch of well-behaved but forgettable leftovers from the Harper era. That's not necessarily a bad thing... experience in cabinet and minister-level portfolios should give people a lot of insight into how government works. But I don't think anybody actually stood out in any of these roles... aside from maybe Jason Kenney, who isn't even running. The Harper government failed to groom any successors. Quick, name a Harper cabinet minister and the portfolio they're known for!
Also... Kellie Leitch sets off my gaydar in a big way. I don't know if it's true or not... but given the Conservative reliance on rural conservatives as a key component of their voting block, that seems to me like a major obstacle for her.

Most Conservatives out here, in the middle of nowhere, are enamoured with Maxime Bernier. I think he has a real shot.

I think Lisa Raitt would be a good choice, but what the heck do I know?

I think that for a big whack of Conservatives the overriding concern is electability. And that, to some extent, requires the ability to stand out and show you've got the credentials and charisma to go against Trudeau. Given this pack of largely anonymous people the only one that stands out in that regard is O'Leary.
I think that, given time, people like Lemieux, Scheer and Bernier might be able to achieve the public recognition and respect needed, and maybe the long time-line of this race was intended to do that to get their faces and names out there more. If so, the idea failed and continues to fail due to the large number of candidates.

People in my stretch of the middle of nowhere like O'Leary as he has the celebrity factor and media savvy to take on Trudeau. People are focused on the economy priority one and don't think about legal dope, abortions, and immigration. And this is from the literal sticks.
I see scheer as being a really good alternative as he is squeaky clean and also focused on jobs. Bernier is meh and seems to be chasing cheques with his mouth his ass can't cash. People in the sticks know that trost and leitch can't carry Ontario, bc, and Quebec so they aren't taken seriously.
I don't think leitch knows how empty the rural areas are compared to the USA and nobody is taking her seriously. If she wants to save her political career she needs to back somebody asap.
